Attendance & Absences
Student attendance is very important. Having your students in class, and on time is crucial to their education. Please have your student to school before 7:50am. The front doors at T.C.E.A. open at 7:30am Monday through Friday. We get started on the dot at 7:50am in our Studio, and every second is important. If your student is going to be late, please make sure to sign them in at the front office. Your student will not be allowed in the classroom past 7:50am without a tardy pass from the front desk. Every 5 unexcused tardies and/or unexcused early pickups, will equal one unexcused absence. If your student needs to take an excused absence or tardy (sickness, appointments, emergencies, etc.) please send a note with your student stating the need for missing class time, or the absence will not be excused. If a student needs to be picked up early from school, the student must bring a note to school for Ms. Adams, by the day of early release. The note must indicate a date, a time, and who is picking the student up from school. Please also indicate a phone number for the parent/guardian in case there are any questions. If your student is going to be absent for an extended period of time, picking up student work can be arranged. Any student who has missed more than 8 days in a trimester may be retained based on attendance. Class Rules In our class we: -are ready to learn everyday -use our manners, share, and take turns -follow directions the first time they are given -keep our hands, feet, and bodies to ourselves -raise our hand, and are patient with others -treat others with respect and compassion -we T.H.I.N.K. before we speak T: is it true? H: is it helpful? I: is it inspiring? N: is it necessary? K: is it kind? Communication Communication is key in this classroom! I will celebrate your child’s achievements, discoveries, struggles, and successes with you. An e-mail or a message through the ClassDojo program will be the quickest and easiest form of communication. Phone calls are accepted after school hours up until 4:00pm. If you would like to schedule meeting, please do not hesitate to let Ms. Adams know at any time. e-mail: [email protected] phone: (910) 849-0888 Behavior & Discipline In our classroom, students will follow classroom rules set in place and students will be held responsible for their actions. We will be using the ClassDojo program on a daily basis. Using this program, students will be able to receive points for positive behaviors as well as lose points for negative behaviors in class. The students will see their point values earned at various times throughout the day. Students will start every day at 0, and be able to build their points with simple actions; such as arriving on time, having their homework turned in, participation, helping others, making good choices, or being a sweet friend to someone in need. The ClassDojo website is available at all times for parents. Each family will have an access code to see student behavior and points earned on the ClassDojo website. After logging in, parents will be able to see exactly what their students are being rewarded for, and likewise, what they are losing points for. The program also has an app available for your smartphone (very convenient for parents on the go!). You can access your student’s daily behavior at any time on your phone through the app after signing in. Families will only be able to see their own student’s point values. ***You will be receiving an access code for your student’s Dojo. Explore the ClassDojo website thoroughly and contact Ms. Adams with any questions. Student’s negative behavior will be handled on a case by case basis. Students are held accountable for their actions. Extreme cases will be handled appropriately by Ms. Adams and Mrs Hill. Behavior referrals are handled directly by our Principal and Vice Principal. Each student has many chances throughout the day to learn from decisions and correct behavior choices. Each student has the opportunity to have a great day, every day! Birthdays Birthdays are a very exciting time for our students! If you would like to send in a pre-packaged treat for you student and his/her classmates to enjoy, please feel free. Treats must still be sealed upon arrival at school. Parents can also create a timeline of their students life for them to share with the class (send in pictures or create a poster board) This is completely optional! Parents are always welcome to come visit during lunch time on birthdays as well. We will celebrate birthdays as a class, and will plan accordingly. Parents must pre-schedule any birthday treat deliveries with Ms. Adams. If parents have any questions about birthdays, please let Ms. Adams know before the student’s birthday. Clothing & Uniform Please label your student's backpack, as well as winter coats with a last name. It is possible to confuse jackets and outerwear; with labels, confusion will be kept to a minimum. We will try to go outside, everyday (unless it is raining, or it is simply too cold). **Please keep a change of clothes in your child’s backpack. These will be helpful in case we get too messy during crafting time or have an accident. (Rules regarding uniform and dress follow the rules stated in the Student Handbook. Please refer to the Student Handbook with any questions about Uniform for students.) Holiday Parties We will celebrate holidays with the class! Depending on the holiday, and needs of the students, volunteers would be very helpful. Students may be asked to bring in certain items or contribute to the class party. Forms will be sent home before the holiday party containing more information. We will be exploring many different holidays and cultures. If students are knowledgeable about a certain holiday, they may be asked to share experiences and thoughts with the class as well! Homework Each day your student will bring home a communication folder. In their folder you will find any notes, letters from the office, and many other things that your student may need throughout the week. Students are required to read or be read to for 20 minutes a night. Please complete the reading log each night. Student will be receiving list of sight words. Please review these with your student each night. Integration Studio A huge part of our curriculum includes integration of student learning into various studios; Visual Art, Music, Theatre, Media, and Dance. Ms. Adams works closely with our Masters of Arts to make sure students are achieving their highest creative learning potential. Lunch Students have 30 minutes for lunch everyday. Our lunch is from 11:00am-11:30am everyday. Students are expected to follow Lunch Room rules. There is a daily lunch program offered to students which requires a prepayment. There are no refrigerators or microwaves available for students use. Lunches may be dropped off for students at the front desk by a parent or guardian, but it must be labeled with the student's name and classroom. Parents are allowed to sign their students out for lunch, but students cannot miss class time. If students return late from a lunch off campus, they will receive a tardy which will account to daily attendance. If the student is receiving a lunch from an outside delivering vendor, the office will hold the item, however, the office staff will not sign or pay for the items. Parent Conferences Parent teacher conferences are scheduled in December and March. At these times, parents will receive a letter home and email to sign up for a time to meet with Ms. Adams. Conferences may be scheduled earlier or later in the school year depending on individual child needs. Ms. Adams is available after school on some days, and able to be reached by email/Dojo if communication is needed. Report Cards & Progress Reports Students will receive progress reports at mid-term and end of term during each trimester. End of year report cards will be mailed home. Art Classes Students are expected to show the same respect to their resource teachers as they do towards Ms. Adams. Students must follow the classroom rules asked of them in the classroom they are in. Please have your student prepared for the resource class they are attending that day. Art teachers each have their own requirements and expectations in their classrooms. Please contact arts teachers directly with questions, comments, or concerns! Staying Healthy Germs are a fact of life in Kindergarten. We cough and sneeze into or elbows, we wash our hands, and we clean up our messes. However, sometimes we still share germs. The best defense is a healthy offense! Healthy food at home, as well as lots of sleep will help our students stay healthy and happy. If your student is sick, please let Ms. Adams know as soon as possible! If your student is not feeling well at school, you will be contacted by TCEA. . Student Handbook Please make yourself very knowledgeable with the student handbook. It is the guidebook for TCEA. If you have any questions or comments, do not hesitate to contact Ms. Adams. Website Newsletter The class website will be updated on a weekly basis. You will find lots of information regarding our classroom. Your child can be picked up by being a ‘walker’ or ‘carpool’. Daycare/Encore Kids College students will need to provide Ms. Adams with a schedule prior to starting. Ms. Adams needs to be informed of any change of transportation by a written note. Of course plans can change, and if they do, please call the front desk to inform the school of changes.
